One of our aims here at GLOW is to build up women and young girl’s confidence. Everyone is unique in what makes them feel confident so as you read this you will get practical ways to help improve your own confidence starting TODAY!
First let me give you an analogy to think about. Most of us sit in a chair every day and without really giving much thought we don’t examine the chair thoroughly before we sit down to make sure it is going to hold us up.
We just sit in it.
That is having confidence in the chair. It is built for one purpose: to be able to hold the weight of a person and provide support to the body while in a relaxed state. See confidence is having the belief that the chair has the ability to succeed in holding you up while you rest on it.
So let’s apply that to ourselves. In our programmes we teach that confidence is “A state of being certain that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective” or “Having belief in your ability to succeed.”
See our confidence is built up when we believe we have the ability to do things and also when our actions show that we can indeed succeed.
When you don’t dwell on negative consequences you can be more self-confident because you’re not worrying about failure or the disapproval of others. Also, keep in mind things that make one person feel confident may not work for another.
Here is a list of 6 ways to help improve your confidence.
1.
Take action
You will not improve your confidence by staying at home and not stepping out.
2.
Face your fear
Facing and conquering fears or challenging yourself to try new experiences will instantly boost your confidence.
3.
Understand the order that things happen
You will not get the confidence to try something new before you do it. Confidence comes when you take a risk and do something even though you don’t feel confident.
4.
Prepare
Practice, enroll in a class, read a book or do whatever you can to prepare for a task.
5.
Realise that failure or being wrong will not kill you
“Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong.” Would you rather do something, make a mistake and learn from it or live a life of regret?
6.
Get to know who you are and what you want out of life
If you do things to please others then you will always disappoint. Other people can’t knock your confidence when you are secure in who you are.
So let’s get on out there and do something that will help build your confidence today!
